Take some very common questions-tell us something about yourself, what makes you interested in this position, why do you think that you are the most suitable candidate for this post, what are your expectations from this position, how do you think you can add value to the company through your services etc. All these questions center around two things-you and the post you have applied for. Again, these two subjects are interlinked. Your qualities and achievements must match the skill sets and essential requisites of the post. The more can you closely integrate these two aspects, the more can you demonstrate your overriding eligibility and aptitude to get selected for the post.

How can you achieve this? Begin by knowing more about the post and the company. You can talk to some company staff or go through their prospectus or Annual Reports. The web often contains good information about various companies. Once you know the duties and responsibilities of the post and get a company profile, you can match your skills and experience to every of the requisite. Say, a company is looking for a cashier. This job requires swift counting, smart handling of currency, correct figure work and unblemished integrity. If you had been good in maths, tell them about your ease with numbers. If you had been a cashier anywhere, even in voluntary roles like in NGO's, Clubs, Associations, tell them that and mention how efficiently you carried out the assignment. Here, these skills really matter and give you lot of mileage. It’s no point telling here that you had been a good orator and won many laurels in your school and college days!

Staying focused and in-tune with your responses to interview questions can put you in the lead and even make you the winner.
