Default Human resources chief bids to end deadlock with Communication Workers Union in Royal

Royal*Mail's human resources chief is to meet with union leaders today in an attempt to break the deadlock in its long-running*pay dispute. Tony*McCarthy, group director for people and organisational development, will meet representatives from the Communication*Workers Union (CWU) at talks facilitated by conciliation service Acas. In a letter*to Royal Mail's chief executive Adam Crozier, the CWU's deputy general secretary Dave Ward said the union remained "committed to reaching an agreement". The CWU has made it clear it will not discuss Royal Mail's previous offer as that had been overwhelmingly rejected by the workforce in a strike ballot. "I have told [McCarthy] that we expect fresh and meaningful negotiations. We are not in the market for Royal Mail simply rehashing its previous position or deliberately stringing out talks," Ward wrote.
