Default Communication Workers Union agrees to extend pay dispute talks with Royal Mail for a further five da

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has agreed to extend talks with Royal Mail for a further five days to resolve a pay dispute with workers. Talks were due to conclude yesterday (4 September), but have now been extended until 9 September. Union members have already held two 24-hour strikes and a week of rolling walkouts after it rejected the national postal service's pay offer of 2.5%. CWU are also concerned that the Royal Mail's modernisation programme will come at the expense of up to 40,000 jobs. CWU said in a statement: "Following the four weeks of talks, both Royal Mail and CWU have agreed to extend negotiations for a further five days until Sunday 9 September 2007, in order to resolve all issues in dispute."
