RMT union puts 72-hour strike action on hold
The Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers' Union (RMT) has put strike action by more than 2,300 Metronet maintenance workers scheduled for today (10 September) on hold. RMT called a halt to the first 72-hour strike by the Tube infrastructure workers strike on the London Underground rail network last Tuesday, following marathon peace talks. Members of RMT voted to strike after the union failed to get "unequivocal guarantees" over jobs and pension rights from the administrator, after Metronet went into administration in July. Bob Crow, RMT general secretary, said: "Our reps are happy that they now have a full pension-scheme rescue in place, and that the issue of job losses has been resolved. "However, there remain issues to be resolved around the train-fleet contract with Bombardier, and we are seeking further talks with Metronet and the administrator," he added.
