The high number of deaths in the farming industry has led to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) developing new vocational qualifications to boost the competencies of workers in the sector. HSE figures show that the agricultural sector had the most workplace accidents, with 45 fatalities last year - 23 farmers or self-employed workers, 13 employees and nine members of the public. The HSE said: "It's vitally important that the level of hazard awareness is improved so that people who work in the industry can take suitable precautions to reduce the risk of accidents."
